Wire Alliums

Wire Alliums for your garden

Saturday 14th March 10 - 4, £55
Price includes all basic materials, refreshments and a simple homecooked lunch.

Learn various wire forming techniques and create a wonderful everlasting Allium for your garden.

The workshop is suitable for anyone and is a nice way to learn basic metalwork and jewellery making skills. Please note though, the technique is quite repetitive and the wire used for the large Alliums needs to be relatively thick so it may be tiring on your hands, so please bare this in mind if you have any issues with hand strength.

You will be supplied with steel wire (Bright silver colour or black/rust colour) to complete your Allium. If you wish to combine with copper wire I need to add an additional £5 to cover the cost. If you want to make a recycled can version, please save up drink cans and bring them with you.

You’ll get a handout to remind you of how to do the basics as well as suggestions for suppliers so you can make more at home.

We'll all start with learning the basic technique, create a couple of small stylized flowers. You will then go on to create your own large garden Allium. There will be a couple of designs for you to choose from; either a pure wire design or using wire and recycled drink cans.

The workshops is with Anna Roebuck, who began to develop the wire flowers in response to a Remembrance day commission and has since gone on to explore making different types of flowers out of wire.

Anna also runs a Wire Poppy workshop which is a great introduction to working with wire.
